Incredible Sustainable Living Architecture in India
By Contributor   |  Jan 31, 2014

Adapting to the weather in Cherrapunji, India, the locals understand how to design the landscape in order to get the most of the environment despite the adverse weather conditions. How do you design a bridge in a place that is one of the wettest monsoon areas in the world? Cherrapunji once received 25 metres of rain in one year.

In a place where any man-made bridge can easily be washed away during the monsoon season, humans here have consciously decided to work in collaboration with nature to produce, over the generations, a sustainable living architecture that will only strengthen as the years go by.

This is a story of heritage, respect for the environment, acute observation of the landscape and clever design. It is an inspiration to us all.
