On May 7, 2024, religious leaders from a broad range of traditions gathered with the Catholic Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Mexico City for an evening of Interreligious Prayer. Among the key participants was Anuradha Devi Dasi representing ISKCON Mexico City, alongside Jewish, Buddhist, Christian, Muslim, and Sikh leaders.

The convocation occurred under the direction of the Commission for Interreligious Dialogue and Communion (CEDIC) together with the Primate Archdiocese of Mexico, which focused on the upcoming elections. It was held at the Old Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City, a significant pilgrimage site dedicated to the Virgin of Guadalupe, one of the most revered figures in Mexican Catholicism. The religious leaders gathered prayed for a “good performance in the next presidential election” in Mexico.

Participants included Archbishop Antonio Alejo of the OCA Orthodox Church, Pastor Miguel Ortiz Saavedra of the Evangelical Church of the Covenant, Bishop Agustín Altamirano Ramos of the Methodist Church, Father Alfonso Serna of the Grecomelquita Church, Palwam Kaur of the Sikh Community, Marco Antonio Karam of Casa Tibet, Bishop Francisco Javier Acero and and ISKCON’s Anuradha Devi Dasi.

Archbishop Antonio Alejo highlighted that “the importance of interreligious prayer is so that all parishioners of different religions, regardless of our creed, assume the importance of exercising that right to vote to which each and every one of us is called.” Anuradha Devi Dasi highlighted the importance of every citizen to act from the heart and beautifully chanted the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra during her remarks.
