PURI/BHUBANESWAR: A case has been slapped on a US-based website for selling undergarments emblazoned with pictures of the deity Jagannatha. Police said it registered the case on Monday after a Puri-based religious outfit lodged a complaint of hurting religious sentiments.

The priests of Jagannatha temple, too, had slammed the California-based website (cafepress.com) for selling apparels embellished with faces of a number of Hindu gods and goddesses, including the presiding sibling deities of Jagannatha temple.

The temple administration has decided to take up the matter with the company. “We will write to the company and also move the Indian embassy in America to stop sale or display of such objectionable products,” said temple chief administrator Suresh Mohapatra.
