By ISKCON News Staff   |  May 05, 2022

THE LAND… THE PEOPLE… THE WILDLIFE… THE INSPIRATION…

THE SAFFRON PATH
Trekking the Globe with The Walking Monk

From being stalked by a grizzly bear to being mistaken for an escaped prison inmate, swami and marathon walker, The Walking Monk, braves the elements and adventure across the globe to bring you the tales only trails can tell.

The Saffron Path is the inside story of a man in saffron robes crossing on foot countries near and far. The Walking Monk (Bhaktimarga Swami) has walked across Canada 4 times, the U.S.A. once, Israel, Ireland, Guyana, Trinidad, Mauritius, and Fiji.

Join him on his quest to connect with the land and its inhabitants in all forms and species, as he uplifts us toward a more ‘car-free carefree lifestyle. Feel the mysticism of Canada’s northern lights or a starry Colorado sky, the fright of hair-raising close calls, and the simple joys of human kindness that fuel a swami to keep trekking forward on The Saffron Path.

When you walk, you rock! May you live the adventure!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
A shy Canadian farm boy turned monk, John Vis (now Bhaktimarga Swami) stepped his way into the moniker of “The Walking Monk” one stride at a time after finding a path forged by saintly Indian scholar and spiritualist, the founder and preceptor of ISKCON, A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami.

The Walking Monk joyfully shares the wisdom of India’s ancient and inspiring texts worldwide through upbeat musical mantra meditation and dance, his vibrant and original live community theatre productions, and of course, marathon walking! These marathons have been covered in two Canadian film documentaries and numerous international media outlets.

Bhaktimarga Swami is based in Toronto, Canada. When not tending to the more administrative side of his leadership duties, he eagerly sets the rhythm of his feet far and near, by tree and by tower, to honour the practice of history’s greatest pilgrims. He details his experiences promoting connection to nature, to each other, and to the Divine in his daily blog and on his Instagram page.
